Residents demand that the census results be corrected, as there are significant discrepancies between the official data and the real situation in the community.
“According to the lists of the Central Election Commission, there are 3201 voters living in Petresti village. Locally collected data show that 410 children are enrolled in secondary school, 128 in kindergarten and 99 children under 3 years of age. In total, there are 974 children between the ages of 0 and 18. Together with voters, there are 4175 people in Petresti alone, plus the village of Medeleni has 356 voters and 47 children, totaling about 4500 people in the two villages. The official census showed only 3153-3186 people, which is a difference of more than 1400 people,” explained Mayor Serghei Gora.
The residents of the commune asked the National Bureau of Statistics to publish the population lists in order to verify the data and establish the reasons for the disappearance of these people from the official registers.

The second question concerned the proposal of unification. “We were offered to unite with Todiresti commune, but there is no road between us, so we cannot unite. Besides, the people of Todiresti do not want us, and the people of Petresti do not want us either,” explained the mayor, who is in his fourth term in office.
The residents of the commune voted unanimously against unification.
“Everything we did in the village, we did with our own efforts, with the taxes collected. I also applied for several projects, but I am not the right color in the area. However, we are doing as well as anyone else. The moment unification starts, customs will disappear, everything will disappear from this village,” opined a local elected official.
A local elected representative from Petresti emphasized the need for administrative reform, but not in the way it is being promoted.
When asked what would happen if, as a result of the regulatory merger, the Todiresti Municipality is forced to merge with the Municipality of Petresti commune, the local elected representative said that this should not happen.
“Law No. 225 of 2023 clearly states that the activity of town halls with a population of three thousand people is allowed, which is the number our town hall has. To force us to unite, someone must violate the law,” concluded Serhiy Gorya.
