According to the Department of Energy, the 2027 program has officially launched and the application deadline is June 2026. Total funding for the competition is $7.2 million.
The energy category accepts projects aimed at developing clean energy infrastructure, improving energy efficiency, digitalizing the energy sector, improving access to reliable energy sources and promoting green technologies.
Winners in each category will receive $1 million to expand their projects, and finalists will receive $100,000 in prizes.
The international program is organized in honor of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, former leader of the United Arab Emirates, and aims to support sustainable development initiatives.
According to the Department of Energy, in the 20 years since its launch, projects funded through the Zayed Sustainability Prize have impacted more than 400 million people worldwide, increasing access to renewable energy and building resilience to climate change.
