Ион Чебан
Mayor Ion Cheban made this statement during a conference on launching a consultative referendum on the reform.
In his view, clarification is needed on the following issues:
– whether the reform will lead to higher salaries for teachers and a reduction in bureaucracy;
– what solutions are being proposed for the development and modernization of school infrastructure;
– what specific changes will improve the quality of the educational process, the curriculum, and the operations of educational institutions.
“We have not been presented with a reform concept, nor has a broad discussion of it been organized,” said Ion Cheban. “Yet teachers and parents need to be aware of all the consequences of the proposed reform. That is why we believe it is important to consult with citizens through a referendum,” said Ion Cheban.
The capital’s deputy mayor, Victor Prutianu, emphasized the need for open institutional dialogue. He also noted that in the EU, education policy is developed at the central level, while school management is carried out at the local level.
As Logos Press previously reported, the Chisinau General Directorate of Education, Youth, and Sports, in partnership with the Federation of Trade Unions of Education and Science Workers (FSEȘ), organized public consultations to assess the impact of the planned RESTART reform on the capital’s education system.
