According to Euroactiv, the warship arrived in Constanța after a 14-hour voyage from Turkey, marking the first time in 36 years that a new vessel has been commissioned into the Romanian Navy.

The corvette, built in Turkey as part of the HISAR program, cost 223 million euros and is designed to perform a wide range of tasks, including maritime surveillance, patrolling, search-and-rescue operations, surface combat, as well as anti-air and anti-submarine warfare.

The vessel is capable of carrying helicopters and unmanned systems and will help protect critical infrastructure in the Black Sea.

Mirece stated that this ship represents a turning point for the Romanian Navy, but emphasized that modern equipment is only meaningful when combined with qualified personnel. “Effectiveness is never the result of one person’s work. It is the result of a team’s work,” he said.
