Political tensions: the US and Iran

According to meduza, citing the Iranian Fars News Agency, the United States refused to discuss the payment of compensation to Iran and demanded the transfer of 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to the American side. Washington also insists on the closure of most Iranian nuclear facilities – only one complex should remain in operation.

In addition, the U.S. is ready to unfreeze only up to 25% of Iranian assets blocked by sanctions. Another condition was the cessation of hostilities in the region, including Lebanon, but only within the framework of the negotiation process.

In response, Tehran earlier put forward its own package of demands: cessation of war, lifting of sanctions, unblocking of Iranian funds, compensation for damages and recognition of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump has already rejected Tehran’s proposals, calling them unacceptable.

Despite the truce in place since April, tensions between the countries remain. The sides continue to strike each other and have been unable to agree on a new round of talks for weeks.

The issue of Iranian uranium is putting additional pressure on the situation. Earlier, the U.S. developed a plan to seize about 450 kilograms of highly enriched material. Experts call such an operation extremely risky and practically unprecedented.

Analysts estimate that a significant part of the stockpile may be under the ruins of the Isfahan nuclear facility destroyed by US and Israeli strikes in the summer of 2025.
