According to the press service of the state administration, during these visits, Maia Sandu “will promote the interests of citizens, partnerships for Moldova’s security and development, as well as Moldova’s accession to the European Union”.
During the plenary session of the European Parliament on May 19, the president will hold discussions with the president of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and representatives of political groups: European People’s Party (EPP), Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Renew Europe, Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EPA).
As Logos Press previously reported, during the visit, Sandu will be awarded the Order of European Merit, a decoration established by the European Parliament on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. The award is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the promotion of European values and to the strengthening of the European project.
Also, on May 20, the President will be on a working visit to the Netherlands, where he will meet with Prime Minister Rob Yeaten and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen. Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, both officials will make joint statements to the press.
On the second day of May, at the invitation of the President of the Czech Republic Petr Pavel, Maya Sandu will participate in the Globsec forum in Prague, one of the most important international platforms dedicated to security and foreign policy. On the margins of the event, the president will hold a bilateral meeting with President Pavel and will deliver a speech on Moldova’s experience in defending democracy and resisting external interference.
“This week’s visits are aimed at promoting the interests of citizens to create a safe and prosperous country through partnerships and future membership in the European Union,” the press service said.
