Authorities are considering the creation of a single institution for major EU-funded projects

The Moldovan authorities are studying the possibility of creating a specialized national institution, which will deal with the implementation of large-scale projects. It is about the formation of a single structure capable of managing large-scale investments and increasing the efficiency of the utilization of European funds.

“We saw in several countries that are already members of the European Union that still had a problem of absorbing European money. We’ve seen who and what institutional structure has been put in place to step up. We saw in Greece that they were able to do much more through this new agency,” President Maia Sandu told Realitatea TV.

The head of state emphasized that the government needs to solve this issue as soon as possible. According to her, it is important to ensure the receipt of funds, and then do everything to ensure that the money is used effectively and that citizens see concrete results as soon as possible.

Maia Sandu also said that the ecology and agriculture are the two sectors where the biggest work is to be done to adjust the standards to the European Union norms. The head of state emphasized that Moldova thoroughly examines each commitment to see if it can actually be fulfilled.

“On the one hand, of course, we want to have clean water, clean air, when we talk about conditions in the environment, it is good for people. On the other hand, it means of course for economic agents that they have to make some investments in order to meet the standards of the European Union. And we are trying to understand how each obligation can be implemented in reality, so that there are no obligations that we will not be able to implement later,” the President emphasized.

She voiced hope that Moldova will receive another EU support at the end of the current program, adding that the European Union is currently working on the formation of a common budget.
