The main feature of the device is an intelligent temperature control system. The device does not use universal cooling settings: instead, it adapts to a specific bottle, writes NewAtlas. The user can scan the wine label with a smartphone, after which the AI-based system detects the drink and automatically selects the optimal cooling parameters.
Additional information about the selected wine – from a basic description to user reviews – is also available via the mobile application. According to the developers’ idea, this should make the device useful for both amateurs and more experienced wine connoisseurs.
Porta is fully powered by a built-in battery, eliminating the need for a mains connection. This autonomy allows the device to be used outside the home – for example, at events, picnics or off-site tastings, where traditional refrigeration is not always convenient.
Special attention has been paid to materials. The case is made of recycled aluminum, and some of the internal elements are created using recycled cork. The developers emphasize that environmental friendliness was one of the key principles in the creation of the device.
In terms of design, Porta is conceived not only as a functional gadget, but also as a presentation element. Its shape and appearance allow the device to be used as a part of serving, especially at events where the visual component is important.
The project is being developed as part of a campaign on Kickstarter, and its authors expect to gauge the audience’s interest in the combination of artificial intelligence and consumer technology for the wine industry.
