5G coverage is set to expand

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) has drafted the “Roadmap for radio spectrum management for the development of terrestrial networks and broadband electronic communications services for the period 2026-2030”.

The document aims to ensure the allocation of new radio frequencies for the expansion of 5G and broadband Internet, while preserving the operation of existing networks.

The Agency plans to provide the mobile market with sufficient radio frequency spectrum for the construction and development of radio access networks (RANs) to enable them to build and develop mobile networks and expand high-speed internet, while complying with European spectrum management standards.

ANRCETI plans to synchronize the terms of licenses for existing frequencies and allocate spectrum for the development of 5G and broadband internet. A number of frequencies will be distributed through tenders, while some will be extended to current operators, if necessary with refarming, when frequencies previously used for old networks are released and reconfigured for more modern standards, such as 4G or 5G.

First-come-first-served rules apply to private and corporate networks.

The renewal and allocation of licenses for key radio frequencies for mobile communications, with tenders and renewal of existing licenses, is planned to take place between 2026 and 2028.

Consultations on the draft Roadmap will be held until January 21, 2026.

Currently, 5G coverage in Moldova is still limited to a few cities, and further network development requires synchronization of licenses and additional spectrum allocation.
