Moldova will have a strategic plan for fish farming

These parameters stipulate the draft Strategic Program for the development of the aquaculture sector. The document was presented to fish farming sector operators at a consultative meeting at the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

A press release from the ministry notes that the strategic program establishes priority directions for the development of a competitive and sustainable fish farming sector that will contribute to ensuring food security in the country. The program includes mechanisms aimed at modernizing fish farms, optimizing the interaction between state institutions and producers, as well as introducing practices that comply with European environmental standards.

Another important element of the document is the development of the processing industry equipped with modern systems of quality management and food safety. It is expected that by the end of 2028 the number of authorized and modernized enterprises will increase by 25%, which will translate into a 30% increase in the value of local products on the domestic market.

According to the estimations of the operators of the Moldovan market of fish and fish products, at the moment the share of local producers is less than 10% of the market capacity in physical and less than 5% in value terms.
