The demographic situation in Chisinau municipality in January-June 2025 was determined by the growth of natural population movement indicators: the birth rate increased, as well as the number of marriages and divorces.
The natural population growth registered in January-June 2025 remained positive and amounted to +912 persons (+223 persons in January-June 2024). The growth of the capital’s population is thus not only due to internal migration.
According to preliminary data, 4108 live births were registered in January-June 2025, which is 17.6% more than in the first half of 2024. The number of deaths in the capital totaled 3,196, down 2.3%. Child mortality is also decreasing in the capital. The number of children under 1 year of age who died during this period decreased by 26.5% and amounted to 50 people.
In the first half of the year, the number of registered marriages in Chisinau increased by 3% (1776) and by 12% the number of officially registered divorces (1319).
The average monthly nominal salary in the first half of 2025 in the organizations of real and budgetary sectors in the capital amounted to 18,186.7 lei, which is 18% higher than the national average (15,470.6 lei). Compared to January-June 2024, the salary increased by 9%, or by 1,503.4 lei.
