“The WKF initiates a lawsuit in connection with the decision of the Moldovan authorities to sabotage the European Championships, illegal non-admission of Russian, Belarusian and some athletes from the EU countries,” reads the text of the statement released by the International Kickboxing Federation. It is not reported in which court the WKF intends to file a lawsuit.
The European Kickboxing Championships were to be held in Chisinau from June 22 to June 29, but the Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research two days before the tournament restricted the entry of more than 100 members of the Russian and Belarusian delegations “in connection with the threat to national security”. The WKF decided to cancel the championship. LP reported about it in detail in the issue of June 27.
Later, WKF president Friedrich Exenberger said that the decision was political, contrary to the principles of sport, and the Moldovan authorities violated the principles of freedom.
