Business representatives pointed out the challenges that small agritourism guesthouses face in complying with hygiene and food safety requirements and passing official inspections.
In particular, it was proposed to simplify the checklists for small tourist and agritourism guesthouses, making them clearer and more user-friendly for operators. It was also proposed to hold joint informational sessions for the owners of such facilities with the participation of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) and the National Association of Inbound and Domestic Tourism of Moldova.
Furthermore, business representatives consider it necessary to revise current regulatory requirements, taking into account the specific nature and small scale of the agritourism sector.
Meeting participants also discussed simplifying the process of starting a business through a notification of the commencement of commercial activities. However, for food service establishments, the requirement for sanitary and veterinary registration with ANSA remains in place to confirm compliance with food hygiene and safety standards.
ANSA Deputy Director Alexandru Manchu noted that agritourism guesthouses play an important role in the development of rural regions, job creation, and the promotion of tourism in Moldova. However, he added that the sector’s development must be accompanied by compliance with sanitary standards and food hygiene and safety requirements.
Proposals from private-sector representatives will be reviewed by the relevant agencies. The goal is to ensure consumer and food safety while reducing excessive administrative burdens on small rural tourism establishments.
