In July, Moldova exported the smallest amount of sunflower seeds at the highest price

In July of this year—that is, in the final month of the 2025/26 marketing season—a total of 6,800 metric tons of sunflower seeds were exported from Moldova. These were the last commercial stocks of raw materials from last year’s harvest. The volume of exports in July 2026 was one-third less than in July 2025 (20,5 thousand metric tons). This is the lowest level of sunflower seed exports for July recorded in five years.

At the same time, the average export price of Moldovan sunflower seeds in July of this year was 16.76 lei/kg. This is the highest July price for sunflower seeds in five years. In July 2025, sunflower seeds intended for export cost 66% less in Moldova.

“The high price is due to the fact that a portion of the exported volume consists of shelled sunflower seeds (kernels), a processed product with higher market value,” explains Iurie Rija, an expert in agromarketing. “Crown SRL (Edinet) was the leading exporter in July 2026, supplying foreign buyers with nearly 2,500 metric tons of sunflower kernels (36% of the total export volume of this commodity).”
