The beer market in Moldova has been growing rapidly in recent years, reaching nearly 129 million liters by 2025.
Data compiled by economist Stas Madan shows that last year, Moldovans consumed 128.7 million liters of beer, compared to 105.3 million liters in 2019.
During this period, consumption increased by 23.4 million liters, representing a rise of approximately 22% over six years.
According to estimates, between 2019 and 2025, total beer consumption in the Republic of Moldova increased by an average of 3.7% per year.
This trend indicates steady market expansion, although growth rates varied from year to year.
For the population aged 15 and older, average beer consumption is approximately 61 liters per person per year.
Beer is mainly domestically produced
Seven out of every ten liters of beer consumed in the country were produced in Moldova.
The local market is primarily supplied by domestic producers. According to data analyzed by an economist, the Republic of Moldova’s beer industry accounts for approximately 70% of domestic consumption.
Imports account for the remaining approximately 30%.
The high share of local production underscores the importance of the domestic industry for the beer market and for meeting domestic demand.
Local Production Is Growing
As consumption grows, so does local production. Stas Madan notes that this growth is driven not only by large companies but also by an increase in the number of small craft brewers.
As a result, the selection on Moldovan store shelves is expanding significantly, including a range of highly exotic beer products.
