The proposed increase amounts to 10,300 lei per year, which will be tax-free.
“This is a measure that primarily helps people with low and middle incomes. It’s a measure that leaves more money in the pockets of those who work. And this measure sends a clear signal: the state must start by respecting legal labor. Combined with the minimum wage increase, which will be announced and take effect on January 1, this measure will allow us to further reduce informal payments—situations where workers are officially paid the minimum wage, while the rest of their salary is paid under the table,” the prime minister stated.
The expected financial impact of increasing the personal tax deduction is approximately 800 million lei.
“This is money that we will leave in people’s pockets. We prefer to leave more money with those who work legally, incentivize them to work, and offset this reduction by broadening the tax base, taxing harmful habits more fairly, reducing exemptions, and improving tax administration,” said Vasile Tofan.
The “Work. Investment. Fairness” tax policy draft will be submitted for public consultation.
