Two consultant positions and one chief consultant position will be created within the agency’s organizational structure. The need to increase staffing is related to the new responsibilities assigned to the Equality Council as part of the implementation of legislation on the free movement and residence of European Union citizens and their family members within the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
The bill aims to bring the national legal framework for preventing and combating discrimination into line with European standards. The document provides for expanding the list of protected grounds, introducing new forms of discrimination, strengthening the independence of the Equality Council, and improving mechanisms to monitor compliance with the recommendations issued by the Council.
The Equality Council notes that the expansion of its powers must be accompanied by sufficient human, technical, and financial resources, in accordance with European Union standards for bodies engaged in promoting equality.
In recent years, the budget for staff salaries was as follows: 3.959 million lei in 2022, 4.473 million lei in 2023, 5.89 million lei in 2024, and 5.697 million lei in 2025.
