
In Romania, 3.5 million homes—housing about 8 million people—are heated with firewood; this accounts for about 85% of the country’s rural housing stock. The passage of this bill leaves few alternatives for energy supply, except for electricity at one of the highest prices in Europe.
“AUR will not vote for this bill; it will push Romanians into even greater energy poverty,” agrointelegența quotes Călin Matieș, a member of parliament from that party, as saying.
