Sergey Ivanov, a member of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, reported that he managed to contain a fire near his wheat field in time. In his opinion, the cause was not the hot weather, but an act of arson.

“The field was set on fire. There’s no trash on this plot, no access road, and no people who could accidentally end up there. The fire was set on purpose,” agroexpert quotes the lawmaker as saying. “People in the area, knowing I have a field there, saw the smoke and called me right away. I reacted quickly and noticed that the fire was spreading rapidly to the fields. I called 112, and by the time the firefighters arrived, we had already brought barrels of water from home and were trying to prevent the flames from spreading further. After that, the firefighters took over and completely extinguished the fire.”

Earlier, Logos Press reported that Moldova’s Hydrometeorological Service had extended the “yellow code” fire danger warning through the end of July.
