According to Sotheby’s, 45 bidders competed for the lot, placing a total of 65 bids. All proceeds from the sale will go to the nonprofit Edge Institute, which funds scholarships, research projects, and support programs for young professionals in the fields of technology, science, and culture.

The jacket sold is a Tom Ford design that Huang wore during the Hon Hai (Foxconn) Tech Day event in Taipei on October 18, 2023. The item’s authenticity was confirmed through photo comparison, and the NVIDIA CEO’s autograph underwent independent verification.

The black leather jacket has been an integral part of the NVIDIA CEO’s public image for many years. He regularly wears it at new product launches, developer conferences, and other key company events. Sotheby’s notes that this garment has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the modern tech industry and the era of rapid artificial intelligence development.

A similar new Tom Ford jacket costs about $10,000, but the item’s provenance and its connection to one of the world’s most famous technology executives have greatly increased its collectible value. The sale also set a new record for clothing items that belonged to tech executives.
