The Government approved amendments regarding the suspension of vehicle registration. They were introduced into the legislation in order to fulfill the commitments undertaken by Moldova within the European integration process.
Suspension of registration will be understood as a temporary legal status of a vehicle, which prohibits its use in road traffic until the grounds for its assignment are removed.
According to the amendments, suspension of registration may occur for several reasons: when the technical inspection expires, when serious technical faults are detected during the inspection, and when the faults are detected while the vehicle is in motion.
Suspension of registration will be automatic
Suspension of registration will be applied automatically by making an entry in the State Register of Motor Vehicles on the basis of information transmitted through information systems.
Information on periodic or repeated technical inspection will be entered by authorized technical inspection stations through the “Autotest” system.
The status of suspended registration, according to the project, will be removed from the day of issuance of the technical inspection certificate. It should confirm the compliance of the vehicle with the standards of authorization to operate.
In addition, the draft provides for amendments to the Contravention Code, which defines the amount of the fine – from 9 UU to 24 UU, which will be applied when driving a vehicle whose registration is suspended. The conditions for the removal of license plates are also defined.
