The MP stated that private sector organisations had mobilised and offered assistance to state institutions where support was needed to resolve the situation.

When asked whether private companies are stronger than state institutions, he confirmed: “As a rule, that is more or less the case, because they pay higher salaries and attract the best specialists.”

The former director of the e-Government Agency, Nicoleta Colomeeț, stated in a podcast published on social media that, during the massive cyber-attack, the agency sought the help of specialists from a private mobile phone operator.

“We are very pleased that our colleagues from Orange came to help. They offered their assistance, and we signed a cooperation agreement between AGE and them to test the perimeter. Because they have the capacity to help us carry out the tests more quickly, (…)”, she said.

We would like to remind you that a meeting regarding this incident will take place in Parliament on Wednesday. The meeting will be held behind closed doors, as certain classified information may be presented.

Hackers are advancing, in step with technology

The authorities attribute these vulnerabilities to the rapid development of technology and artificial intelligence. Grădinaru cited the evolution of military technology and drones as examples, as well as the development of the tools used by hackers.

“These incidents are being investigated to determine who is to blame and why we have not modernised in step with technological developments. Because, as I was saying: when the war began, there were only simple, toy-like drones flying around; now they’re jet-powered. Technology is advancing. Hackers and others are doing exactly the same thing – developing their technology,” said Vasile Grădinaru on TV8.

Meanwhile, the assessment of the consequences of the large-scale cyberattack is continuing. Although electronic public services are gradually being restored, the cyber threat persists. Specialists are analysing the stolen data to determine the extent of those affected. Checks carried out so far have not identified any alterations or distortions of personal data in state registers.
