The bulk of this amount—namely, 50 million lei—consists of compensation payments to 333 farmers who lost most of their corn and sunflower crops due to the extreme drought in 2025. Logos Press previously reported that, in accordance with the concept behind this type of state aid to farmers, the AIPA agency recognized more than 34,000 hectares of withered crops of the aforementioned agricultural crops.
Unfortunately, the implementation of this state aid program for agricultural producers has been marred by scandal. Opposition MP Sergiu Ștefanco stated that a portion of this aid went to companies affiliated with one of Moldova’s largest agricultural holdings and demanded an explanation from Prime Minister Vasile Tofan in this regard.
On a much smaller scale, but nonetheless, the allocation of post-investment subsidies also continued last week. A total of 6.28 million lei was approved for payment to support investments in the wine sector’s production, processing, and marketing infrastructure.
