To facilitate the transition to the new classification, the National Bureau of Statistics has developed Methodological Guidelines for the Use of the Classification. They will take effect on January 1, 2027.

The draft was developed to align the national classification of economic activities with the European Union’s Statistical Classification of Economic Activities (NACE). The document will ensure the necessary consistency in approaches.

Furthermore, as the authors of the document explain, as national economies develop and new technologies and industrial processes emerge, the implementation of the new classification and its methodological guidelines is important for the private sector in terms of correctly identifying the primary type of economic activity.

The new version of the classification better reflects changes in the economy, including the development of digital technologies, innovative services, and new business models.

The methodological guidelines define the procedure for applying the new classification and are intended to simplify the transition from the current version to the new one. As a reminder, it was developed and entered into force on May 7, 2019.

The appendices to the draft present the structure of the new version of Moldova’s Classification of Economic Activities, as well as code correspondence tables.

In addition, the draft describes the integration of the new Classification into the international classification system, the procedure for classifying mixed types of economic activity, special rules for determining the type of economic activity for certain sections of the classification, and other issues.

The draft has been released for public comment. Comments and suggestions from interested parties may be submitted until July 30, 2026.
