The total export quota is set at 20 million tons. In particular, for nitrogen fertilizers it will be more than 8.7 million tons, for ammonium nitrate – more than 4.2 million tons, for complex fertilizers – more than 7 million tons, the government press service reported. According to the signed decree, the new restrictions will be in effect from June 1 to November 30, 2026 inclusive.
What does this mean for Moldovan farmers?
“For farmers in the Black Sea region in general and Moldova in particular, this decision confirms that fertilizers are no longer just an agricultural resource and have become a strategic element comparable to energy,” says Yuriy Rizha, an expert in agro-marketing. – Russia is not creating a deficit, but it is not solving it either. It keeps the market in a tense equilibrium in which prices remain stable and access to goods remains a matter of opportunity, trade relations and logistical synchronization”.
The volume of 20 million tons in six months seems significant at first glance. However, compared to the normal annual level of about 45 million tons, it turns out that supplies are maintained at a fairly high, but not maximum, level. This difference is important for the market: it does not cause panic, but it does not completely upset the global balance. A controlled zone of tension is maintained, just enough to keep prices in a certain range, the expert notes.
