In the men’s final, the tournament’s top seed, Alexander Zverev, defeated the American Ben Shelton 6–3, 7–6(2), 5–7, 6–2.
Six years ago, the German had already reached the US Open final, but on that occasion he squandered a 2–0 lead in sets. This time, Zverev ensured that scenario did not repeat itself. He started the match confidently, took the second set in a tie-break, and after losing the third set, clinched victory in the fourth.
For Zverev, this is his second Grand Slam title of the season following his victory at Roland Garros. It is the second Grand Slam title of the German’s career.
Shelton, for his part, reached the final of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. On his way there, the American knocked out the reigning US Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, in the quarter-finals.
One of the tournament’s biggest upsets was Novak Djokovic’s early exit. The Serb’s campaign came to an end after just the first round.
In the women’s final, Elena Rybakina faced Arina Sobolenko. The Kazakhstani tennis player won the three-set match 6–4, 5–7, 6–2.
Sobolenko tried to turn the match around with aggressive attacks, but Rybakina kept her cool and stepped up at the decisive moment. Her serve and precise shots helped her secure victory.
For Rybakina, this is the third Grand Slam title of her career. She had previously won Wimbledon 2022 and the Australian Open 2026. The victory in New York was her first at the US Open.
