Vlad Plahotniuc
Perchun emphasized that former Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahotniuc, who was convicted by a trial court, is now “one step away from actually serving a prison sentence.”
“The goal is to completely discredit the government and send a signal to the judicial system about its vulnerability: the government is faltering—are you sure you want to convict the ‘capo di tutti i capi’?” Perchun explained.
He claims that people and media resources who had previously worked for Veacheslav Platon, Ilan Shor, and Vlad Plahotniuc were mobilized to create an atmosphere of chaos.
Perchun acknowledged that the attack by criminal groups coincided with a moment of vulnerability for the authorities—the launch of a new budget and tax policy. He described this initiative as a complex reform that had not been clearly explained to the public or properly refined.
The ruling party representative openly acknowledged that the country’s leadership had made mistakes: “It’s true, there are also objective reasons: errors, oversights, and poor decisions that were made and are now being exploited to the fullest.”
In this regard, he emphasized the need to implement clearer rules governing parliamentary activities, conflicts of interest, and standards of conduct. Perchun noted that the approach based on the presumption that “honest people will act honestly” has run its course and given way to the need for strict institutional oversight.
In conclusion, Perchun addressed those implicated in the court cases directly: “They won’t get away with it (‘Nu mor caii când vor câinii’). If they think they’ll manage to evade responsibility in the home stretch, society as a whole will prove them wrong.”
It is worth noting that Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu made a similar statement. He also claims that former PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc is behind a series of media reports about government officials’ “million-dollar salaries.”
