The president called on everyone to reflect on the path the Republic of Moldova has taken over the past 35 years of independence. “The fact that we still face many challenges that need to be addressed does not negate the progress achieved by Moldova and its people,” Maya Sandu stated. She recalled that citizens had stood together to defend democracy, which remains an indispensable condition for the country’s independence.
The president also noted that independence unites people regardless of age, profession, language, place of residence, or political views. “Independence is not about being the same. Independence does not require us to be identical; it requires us to be free together. Our common path lies toward the European Union. Because there, identity is respected, not controlled,” said Maia Sandu.
The president urged citizens not to give up when things get tough and to remember that each of us, through our daily work, contributes to what our country becomes: “The Republic of Moldova is who we are. Who we are at work, in our families, on the streets of our villages, and even online. Let’s be everywhere the kind of people we want the Republic of Moldova to be,” emphasized Maia Sandu.
In closing, the head of state spoke about everyone’s responsibility for the country’s future and about the strength that allows us to accomplish important things for the country together.
“I thank you for being free, because as long as you are free, the Republic of Moldova will be free. Everyone does small things on their own—for their family. We can accomplish great things only together,” the President concluded.
