At the same time, the Economic Diplomacy Office will be reorganized in line with the experience of the foreign ministries of the EU member states.
The Cabinet of Ministers explains the decision to expand and reorganize the Foreign Ministry by creating new services and increasing the staff to cope with the accelerated growth of diplomatic activity and the goals of European integration.
The necessity of these changes is conditioned by the constant increase in the volume of the Foreign Ministry’s activity against the background of the advancement of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, intensification of external cooperation and expansion of the number of international treaties and consular affairs, the Moldovan government claims.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to increase its staff by 35 units (from 161 to 196, or by about 22%), for which it will spend 13.8 million lei annually from the state budget.
The Romanian Embassy in Moldova welcomed the Chisinau government’s decision, noting that it is “a natural and important step in strengthening strategic cooperation.”
“The institutionalization of a mechanism dedicated to relations with Romania confirms the importance that Chisinau attaches to this privileged partnership,” the embassy said.
