Currently, the Moldovan passport allows visiting 124 countries around the world without a visa (the same number as last year).

“The ranking of Moldova’s passport relative to other passports in the world is calculated taking into account the Moldovan government’s approach not only to travel, but also to international tax laws, world perception, dual citizenship and personal freedom, as the number of countries a Moldovan passport holder can visit does not reflect the whole picture and you will face very different requirements to pay taxes, live freely, comply with regulations and avoid scrutiny when traveling,” the authors explain.

Moldova scored 30 points on the tax criterion, 30 points on international perception, 50 points on the possibility of dual citizenship and 30 points on personal freedoms. It was the possibility of obtaining dual citizenship that became the driver of the country’s relative growth.

Malta came first in the ranking, followed by Greece in second place and Ireland in third.

Fourth position went to Romania, and this is undoubted progress for the country, which last year was in 21st position. It has 172 countries, 40 points on taxes and perception and 50 points each on dual citizenship and personal freedoms.

Ukraine is in 73rd place and Russia is 96th.

A total of 199 countries and territories were surveyed in the ranking.
