He made these remarks during the 2026 Energy Strategy Summit in Bucharest.
The minister outlined the transformation of Moldova’s energy sector and highlighted the country’s growing contribution to regional energy security.
“In 2026, energy is one of the most important components of national resilience. Moldova understands this perfectly. Moldova is also becoming an example of how a small country can turn a crisis into a strategic opportunity. We have moved from vulnerability to resilience, from dependence to diversification, and from energy isolation to regional integration,” said Jungheteu.
He emphasized that countries must build energy security through long-term planning, not emergency measures during crises.
“Energy security is not built during a crisis. It is built before a crisis, through investments, interconnections, regional cooperation, and the courage to make strategic long-term decisions,” the minister stated.
Jungheteu also highlighted the support provided by Romania during difficult times, noting that the bilateral partnership has helped Moldova reduce its vulnerability and diversify its energy sources.
The minister outlined a number of priorities for the energy sector, including expanding interconnections with Romania and the European Union, integration into the European energy market, the development of strategic infrastructure, and the expansion of renewable energy generation capacity.
He also emphasized the need for investments in energy storage systems and the modernization of power grids.
In conclusion, the minister reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to playing an active role in Europe’s energy transition, acting as a reliable partner and a bridge between regional energy markets.
