Moldova sees lower vegetable prices but higher livestock costs

In Moldova wholesale vegetables became cheaper and many livestock products became more expensive

The National Bureau of Statistics reports that (wholesale) producer prices (large farms - 50 ha or more) for agricultural products in January-March 2026 compared to the same period in 2025 decreased by 4.7% overall. Specifically, prices for plant products decreased by an average of 9.1%, while prices for livestock products increased by an average of 4.4%.

In this period, selling prices from agricultural producers decreased compared to the same period last year for the following categories of products: open ground vegetables – by 38.2%, legumes – by 36.3%, potatoes – by 22.6%, corn – by 19.1%, wheat – by 16.0%, fruits and berries – by 15.4%, soybeans – by 11.9%. Wholesale greenhouse vegetables rose in price by 18.4%, grapes – by 11.2%.

In the segment of livestock products significantly increased in price: eggs – by 46.5%, meat of sheep and goats – by 31.2%, beef – by 9.0% (in both cases – in live weight). At the same time, prices for poultry meat (in live weight) decreased – by 1.6%, for milk of all kinds – by 0.9%.
