In June, compared to the indicator for May, fruits went up in price by 5.1%, vegetables – down in price by 10.2%. Employees of fruit-growing associations assume that by the end of July fruits will again rise in price due to intensive export, which pushes up the price level in the domestic market. And vegetables will probably become slightly cheaper due to the absence of exports as the main factor supporting prices.
The poor (i.e. the overwhelming part of the country’s population) is particularly sensitive to food inflation. In summer, i.e. in the “period of fruits and vegetables”, their rise in price for the average consumer is all the more offensive.
