According to the legislative initiative, the status of “children of war” is proposed to be granted to people who were under 18 years old on September 2, 1945. The authors of the draft law – PCRM MPs – say that it refers to people who survived hunger, deportations, the horrors of war, the disintegration of families and other consequences of World War II.

The draft law proposes to pay an additional 500 lei monthly to the already existing pension.

“This generation made a significant contribution to the post-war reconstruction of the country, working in agriculture, industry, infrastructure and other fields,” PCRM MP Vera Cernega said.

The authors of the initiative emphasize that the measure is aimed not only at material support, but also at moral recognition of people whose childhood was during the war years.
