As noted in a press release by the Council of the European Union, persons and organizations on the sanctions list are subject to an asset freeze. This regime also prohibits the provision of funds or economic resources to them, directly or indirectly. In addition, individuals on the list are banned from entering or transiting the territory of EU member states.

In total, the EU restrictive measures apply to 23 individuals and 5 legal entities.

“The EU remains committed to supporting Moldova and its resilience, security, stability, economy and energy supply in the face of Russia’s destabilizing activities,” the statement said.

“Since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, attempts to destabilize Moldova have intensified, posing a direct threat to the stability and security of the European Union’s external borders,” EU authorities said.

As Logos Press previously wrote, the EU’s restrictive measures were introduced in April 2023 at the request of Moldovan authorities “in order to prosecute those responsible for supporting or implementing actions that undermine or threaten its sovereignty and independence, as well as democracy, the rule of law, stability or security of the country.”
