Bolhogan in Chisinau: Romania needs the same administrative reform as in Moldova

Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolhogan congratulated the Moldovan authorities for the "determination" shown in the implementation of the administrative reform on voluntary unification of settlements. He emphasized that this model, based on reducing costs and increasing the efficiency of institutions, is an urgent need for Romania as well.

“This is what we have to do in Romania as well, to reduce the costs of public administration, which are now very high for citizens. Transfers from the government can no longer be made in the amounts they have been allocated so far. We need an administration that is at the service of citizens – professional, efficient, not wasting resources and creating conditions for development,” Bolhogan said at an event in Chisinau entitled “Strong City Halls. Developed localities”.

The Romanian prime minister thanked for the invitation and emphasized that the new formula of amalgamation (unification) of settlements across the Prut takes into account the local specifics and the decisions of the communities themselves. According to him, the reform will bring long-term direct benefits to the population by improving the quality of services, attracting additional investments and forming a much more professional administrative apparatus.

For his part, Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu said: “We want to see stronger mayoralties, capable of implementing and realizing large projects – hospitals, schools, roads, sewerage systems – and we can do this only through the reform of local public administration”.

Munteanu also emphasized Bolojan’s rich managerial experience, including his 12-year work as mayor of Oradea.
