He noted that, in addition to support programs for exporters targeting the European market, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Affairs is working with European partners to secure special economic status for Armenia, according to ArmInform.
“And I think this work will be successfully completed, but it requires a certain amount of time,” Papoyan said, noting that it is a lengthy process, as it requires the consent of all European Union member states.
It should be noted that, according to data from the Armenian State Statistical Committee, Armenia’s trade turnover with EU countries grew by 7.2% in 2025, reaching $2.5 billion (or 11.7% of total trade volume). Exports increased by 9% to $666.8 million, while imports rose by 6.5% to $1.8 billion. In the first quarter of 2026, trade with EU countries increased by 54.3%, reaching $763.2 million. Exports grew by 89.8% to $248.7 million, while imports rose by 41.5% to $514.5 million.
