Eugeniu Osmochescu
The decree takes effect on July 8, 2026. The decision was made in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and the Law on the Government, which allow for the appointment of another member of the Cabinet of Ministers as acting head of the Cabinet until a new government is formed.
According to information from government circles, former Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu himself proposed Eugen Osmochescu for this position. Munteanu had declined to continue serving as head of government after announcing his resignation from that post last week.
Sources claim that Osmochescu may also be considered a candidate for the position of prime minister with a full mandate—should a political consensus be reached to form a new government.
It should be noted that, according to the Constitution, the entire government resigns when the prime minister steps down. Until the members of the new government are sworn in, the current government performs only the functions of managing public affairs. After consulting with parliamentary factions, the president nominates a candidate for the office of prime minister. Within 15 days of the nomination, the candidate for prime minister asks Parliament to grant a vote of confidence in the government’s program and its entire composition.
Eugeniu Osmochescu currently serves as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.
