In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu emphasized that a nation’s wealth today is measured not by the volume of natural resources it extracts, but by its ability to manage them wisely and create added value while minimizing their consumption. He noted that modern investors analyze not only production volumes but also energy consumption, waste recycling rates, and the business sector’s overall readiness to meet future challenges.

In this context, the prime minister stated that, in the process of joining the European Union, environmental issues are taking on strategic importance. Clean water and air, a modern waste management system, the protection of biodiversity, the expansion of forest areas, and increased resilience to climate change—these, first and foremost, translate into a new, higher quality of life for citizens.

“The economy of the future will reward efficiency, not wastefulness. And we want the Republic of Moldova to be among the countries that succeed in this race. That is why, for the government, green investments are not merely investments in the environment; they are investments in the future of our economy,” the prime minister emphasized.

The Forum on Green Finance and Investment brought together representatives from government institutions, the banking sector, the business community, and development partners. The main goal of the event is to promote dialogue in the field of green finance and scale up sustainable projects. The forum’s program includes thematic panels, case studies, and workshops for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as for financial institutions.

The event was organized by FinTech Hub and the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham Moldova) with the support of international partners, including EU4Green Recovery East, Innovate Moldova, the European Union Delegation, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the EBRD, the Ministry of the Environment, and Tekwill.

Jessica Rosvall, European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Sustainability, and a Competitive Circular Economy, who is currently visiting Chisinau, is also participating in the forum. As part of her visit, the European official held a meeting with President Maia Sandu. The parties discussed issues related to environmental protection, sustainable water management, climate resilience, and the progress of reforms necessary to bring Moldova closer to EU standards.
