Lumina Noastră power plants passed an inspection prior to receiving government support

The renewable energy power plants operated by the Lumina Noastră consortium—one of the winners of the first renewable energy auction—were inspected by an interagency commission composed of representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), and the state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica.

The commission conducted on-site inspections to verify that the renewable power plants owned by the Lumina Noastră consortium comply with their installed capacities. The inspections were carried out at three power plants already in operation that were included in the bid submitted by the investor at the auction: two power plants located in the Heciul-Nou area, with installed capacities of 4.8 MW and 6 MW, as well as one power plant located in the Rădoaia area of Sînzerei County, with a capacity of 7.5 MW.

The auction for large-scale electricity producers allowed both investors planning to develop new projects and investors who already own power plants that have been built and commissioned to participate. For existing power plants, the compliance review is a step in the process of receiving state support under the subsidy program.

“The verification process ensures that all beneficiary projects meet the same technical standards and facilitates the safe and efficient integration of renewable energy into the national power grid. This mechanism provides predictability for investors and ensures the transparent use of subsidy programs,” stated representatives of the Ministry of Energy.

Context

The first tender, organized by the Ministry of Energy to grant the status of a major qualified producer, targeted a total capacity of 165 MW, of which 105 MW was allocated to wind energy and 60 MW to photovoltaic energy. During the process, six investors were selected to receive a guaranteed fixed price for the energy they supply for 15 years.

The results of the tender confirmed investors’ strong interest in the Republic of Moldova’s energy market and made it possible to establish competitive prices for renewable energy.

A second tender is currently underway for large, qualified producers, aimed at developing 170 MW of wind power capacity and creating at least 44 MWh of battery storage capacity. The procedure has attracted significant interest from investors: 16 project proposals were submitted, with a total capacity of over 423 MW of wind energy and over 305 MWh of energy storage. The integration of energy storage systems will help increase the flexibility of the national power grid and enable more efficient use of the renewable energy produced.

The Republic of Moldova is experiencing the fastest period of growth in its renewable energy sector in its history. While the installed capacity of renewable energy sources was approximately 76 MW in 2020, it exceeded 1,000 MW in April 2026. The accelerated growth of investment in renewable energy contributes to strengthening energy security, reducing dependence on imports, and integrating the Republic of Moldova into the European energy market.
