Under the proposed amendments to the Customs Service Act, the strict ban on outside employment will be revised. Employees will be allowed to hold a second job provided that such activity does not create a conflict of interest or violate the principles of impartiality.
In addition, restrictions will be completely lifted during periods when a customs officer’s employment is officially suspended—at such times, the employee is not performing their duties, meaning the risks of corruption are minimal.
These changes are intended to bring the rules for customs officers into line with the general civil service law.
The bill is currently undergoing public consultation and will subsequently be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for consideration.
