The ranking was compiled based on an analysis of nearly 100,000 traveler reviews of popular tourist attractions in the 50 most-visited countries in the world, according to Euronews. The study assessed the proportion of negative comments related to factors such as overcrowding, high prices, accessibility issues, and failure to meet visitors’ expectations.

Alton Towers topped the “worst” list for the second year in a row. According to the study, 38.2% of reviews about the UK’s largest theme park contained negative comments. Visitors most often complained about the high cost of admission, additional expenses inside the park, and large crowds.

Second place went to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, where negative experiences were mentioned in 19.6% of reviews. In third place is the Horseshoe Casino in Louisiana with a rate of 18.6%.

The top five also included the Széchenyi Baths in Budapest and Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada in Toronto. For both attractions, the main reasons for dissatisfaction were overcrowding and, according to visitors, poor value for money.

On average, the share of negative reviews across all destinations in the study was 5.2%. The highest proportion of disappointed tourists was recorded in the United Kingdom and Canada—7.9% each—followed by the United States with 7.5%.

Among cities, Seattle’s tourist attractions received the highest level of negative ratings, with the share of disappointed visitors reaching 8.9%. Next came Budapest (6.3%), as well as London and Bangkok (6% each).

The study’s authors note that many of the world’s most visited destinations fall victim to their own popularity: high tourist traffic strains infrastructure and raises visitors’ expectations, which ultimately leads to an increase in negative reviews.

Attractions in Russia, Ukraine, and Israel were excluded due to ongoing conflicts.
