During a meeting between representatives of the parliamentary opposition and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, who is on a visit to Moldova, the MP criticized the tendencies of “budget centralization”.
“In the context of the reform of local public administration in Moldova, carried out by the ruling party, I stressed the need for a real decentralization, which implies not formal changes, but a real transfer of financial resources and powers to the localities,” Batrincea commented, criticizing “the tendencies to centralize the budget and manage projects exclusively from Chisinau.”
Representatives of the parliamentary opposition stated the need for more active involvement of all political forces in the decision-making process. In their opinion, the success of the reforms depends on achieving a broad public consensus and refusing to marginalize the opposition’s role in the legislature.
Batrincea emphasized the importance of implementing quality and sustainable reforms “based on the principles of the rule of law, political pluralism and broad public consensus”:
“Moldova’s successful progress on the path of modernization and European integration is impossible without the full participation of the parliamentary opposition in the decision-making process.”
For his part, MP Ion Chicu told Marta Kos about “the democratic retreats of the PAS government, the erosion of the public finance system, which has led to the need to significantly increase taxes, as well as the bloating of the bureaucratic apparatus, for the maintenance of which the state borrows hundreds of millions”.
At the same time, he thanked the European Commissioner “for her constant efforts, thanks to which Moldova can qualify for the start of the accession negotiations with the European Union in June 2026”.
“Our people deserve this decision!”, Chicu commented.
Marta Cos, for her part, said that preparing for the European Union accession is a national project.
“We want all groups of Moldova’s society to be involved and take responsibility for the country’s European future,” Kos was quoted as saying by the EU delegation in Chisinau.
