Serbian President Vucic has talked about resigning

Aleksandar Vučić, on a visit to China, commented on the situation in Serbia. He reminded that his presidential term is about to end. Therefore, he is thinking of resigning.

According to the Belarusian portal tochka.by with reference to the Serbian TV channel N1, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party is ready to offer Vučić to become its candidate for prime minister. Parliamentary elections will be held in the fall of 2026.

Aleksandar Vucic was elected president of Serbia in 2017. In 2022 he was re-elected for a second term. His presidential term expires in 2027.

Recall, in Serbia protests have been held since November 2024. The occasion was the death of 15 people in the collapse of a concrete canopy at the train station in Novi Sad.

Participants accuse the authorities of insufficient security control. The actions continued throughout 2025.

And on May 23 this year, an anti-government rally was held in Belgrade. The demonstrators clashed with the police, who used tear gas.

The participants demanded immediate early elections. According to the Serbian Interior Ministry, about 34.3 thousand people took part in the rally.
