
The first stage, 170 km long, will start from the center of Chisinau on September 9. The convoy will cross Ialoveni, Hincesti, Calarasi and Ungheni districts. Denis Codreanu, president of the Moldovan Cycling Federation, said that the organizers wanted to include in the route as many districts as possible in order to popularize the sport. To this end, the race will include events for children and cycling enthusiasts in several cities.
Asports bridge between the two states
The stage in Moldova will have a symbolic and historical character, as it is the first time that the Tour of Romania starts outside its borders.
The president of the Romanian Cycling Federation, Cătălin Sprănceană, emphasized that this year’s race will be a sports bridge between the two states.
“In 1937, the Tour of Romania was supposed to reach Bessarabia, but at that time the geopolitical context did not allow it,” Sprinceane noted. – After almost 90 years, the competition is coming to the Bassarabian soil. This is a historic moment for cycling in Romania and Moldova”.
The Tour of Romania 2026 will gather about 150 athletes and 25 international teams. The event is included in the International Cycling Union calendar and the athletes will be able to gain points for world rankings and qualification for the Olympic Games.
The Tour of Romania will take place on September 9-13, will include 5 stages on a route from Chisinau to Bucharest of more than 800 km.
