According to the National Crisis Management Center, 13 settlements were temporarily without electricity, and several roads were blocked due to heavy rainfall and stormy winds. Three trains were suspended, including a Chisinau-Kiev flight with 142 passengers on board, which later resumed its journey safely.
In the Calarasi district, a dam break in Hîrzauca led to a rapid rise in the water level. The flood wave is moving towards the settlements of Palanca, Myndra and Leordoia, where there is still a high risk of the flood zone expanding.
Several people were trapped in cars and flooded houses, some had to escape on the roofs of buildings and trees. Rescuers from the General Inspectorate of Emergency Situations (GES) and police officers quickly arrived in the disaster zone to carry out evacuations. So far, four citizens in the car have been rescued before the car was swept away by the water flow. Two more people were evacuated from the roof of the car and two others were rescued from a tree.
For safety reasons, the settlements of Hýřauka, Myndra and Palanka were preventively disconnected from the 10 kV power line to prevent the risk of electrocution. In addition, a full preventive evacuation of all vacationers and staff from the sanatorium “Codru” was carried out.
Energy and transportation
Difficulties were also encountered in the energy sector. A technical failure at the Vulcanesti substation complicated the process of restarting the power system. The works on the full restoration of the power supply are expected to be completed tomorrow, depending on the weather conditions.
The Chisinau International Airport operated in a normal mode. Due to the passage of the thunderstorm front, some aircraft were temporarily sent to the waiting area, but no technical problems or power failures were recorded.
In the railway sector, the movement of passenger trains has already resumed, but the transportation of goods on the affected section is suspended until conditions are completely safe.
Authorities are urging citizens to refrain from traveling to the affected areas, not to attempt to cross flooded road sections and to trust only official sources of information. Emergency services continue to work in a reinforced mode, the situation is under constant control.
