Filat said that the IMF mission had been in Moldova for almost two weeks, and during the final meeting, the Moldovan authorities and international experts agreed on the main directions of the economic policy and reforms for the next period.
“To put it simply, this means that Moldova and the IMF are on the same page when it comes to the country’s economic course,” Alexandru Munteanu said.
The prime minister specified that the sides managed to overcome all the technical disagreements and reach a common understanding on the reforms, priorities and the pace of their implementation. In IMF terminology, this stage is called Staff-Level Agreement.
“And this is not just a formal procedure, but the result of serious work. For us, it is a clear signal that international partners believe that Moldova has a professional team, understands what it is doing and is moving in the right direction at a good pace, even despite the difficult external situation. The next stage is the approval of the agreement by the IMF Board of Directors,” Munteanu said.
Filat also said that on Wednesday, May 20, at 16:00, the IMF will publish an official press release on the results of the mission in Chisinau.
