The authorization applies exclusively to the import and processing of food and feed, but does not involve the cultivation of these crops within the EU. All approved products will be subject to strict EU rules on labeling and traceability, regulating the circulation of genetically modified products on the domestic market. This is reported by ukragroconsult with reference to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Among the approved items is a new line of GMO soybeans DBN-09004-6, introduced by Belgian company Perseus BV on behalf of Chinese Beijing DaBeiNong Biotechnology Co. This is the first time imports of this soybean into the EU have been authorized. The European Commission also renewed the authorizations for corn T25 (ACS-ZMØØØ3-2) and binary cotton GHB614 × LLCotton25. The decision relates solely to trade use and does not affect GMO crop policy in the EU.
