Natalia Plougarou: “We work every day so that families feel our support”

The responsibility of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and the government as a whole is to be close to people not just at the level of programs and documents, but through concrete solutions that really make a difference in the lives of families in Moldova. And the Ministry "works on this every day".

This was mentioned by Labor and Social Protection Minister Natalia Plugaru at the Festival of Family, dedicated to the International Day of Family, which is celebrated on May 15.

“The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection works every day to make the state support more accessible for every family. We managed to double the lump-sum allowance at the birth of a child, we introduced a monthly payment of 1,000 lei for child care up to two years old, which is paid regardless of whether the parents are insured or not. As of 2024, the monthly allowance for raising a child up to three years of age is calculated based on the earnings of the parent whose income is higher. Helping young families to realize their plans, we have opened new nursery groups, and in 2026-2027 we will allocate 385 million lei to create another five thousand new nursery places,” Natalia Plugaru said.

The minister also shared her personal experience, saying that she is raising two children together with her husband.

“I know very well how difficult it is, and I realize how many worries and daily responsibilities lie on the shoulders of every family. I face it myself and know what it takes to combine family life and career. But I want to emphasize: your daily work, care for children, their upbringing and support of loved ones is one of the most significant contributions to the future of our country,” concluded the head of the department.

Logos Press wrote about the real situation in the field of family protection in Moldova in the article “For a sustainable demographic balance, a family should have two children on average – Valeriu Sainsus”.
