The politician said this in an interview with Fox News Channel on May 15 following his visit to China this week.
He expressed hope that the situation amid disagreements between the parties would not escalate.
“I will say this: I don’t want anyone to take the path of independence, because, as you know, it was assumed that we would have to travel 9,500 miles (more than 15,200 kilometers) to wage war. I don’t want that. I would like them to calm down. I would like China to calm down,” Trump stated.
The first visit of an American president to China in 9 years ended with what it was started for: a fragile peace between the two major powers of the planet.
Chinese President Xi Jinping received Donald Trump in Beijing with pomp, spoke to him as an equal and even threatened him. He did not rush to help America fight its main enemy, Iran, and as soon as Trump left, Xi began preparing to receive another US rival, Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
